Ramadhan is about being moderate

So it so wasn't me when i wanted to buy the owl and leaf long necklace in Forever 21 and Momo respectively. And i'm not sure what attracted me to buy them either.

I guess maybe it was a bit of influence by a friend of mine, Fifi Rahmat as she normally wears a necklace on every of our outing. So i thought of doing something different this year for Raya. Not sure whether it will blend in with my lavender colored baju kurung.

Talking about being moderate...bluekkkkk! Oh yes, i did bought earings for 3 for RM15 in Forever 21 and a blue blouse in Kitschen as well. And girls, they're on sale now*devil look*. So grab your boyfriend/mum/dad and do that pityful look and pray that you'll get a piece of their design there.

Catching up with friends

Went out with the group after Iftar to Straits Quay. I met up with Fauzi first earlier, a friend i knew when i was in Maxis and then left to meet the group after that.

It was good to see them again. Reminded me of my fun-filled college years. Stupid jokes and gossips. We were laughing our ass off. Catching with each other. Updating on what's happening in each other's life. It was definitely a good time. And i'm glad that we all still keep in touch with each other and stilk remain as friends.

This is what will happen to you if you hang out with us..you'll be exhausted...

When things are free

We had our appreciation dinner cum buka puasa dinner yesterday and it was in E&O. After a few attempts of booking Sarkies without having to pay deposit or guarantee letter, we managed to secure the booking.

You know how weird it is when people get things for free. They'll be the first one to grab the opportunity. They'll burge into the line with the fear that food might finish and the waiter/waitress will not top up the food...Gosh..it was an embarassing thing to do when you dine in 5 star rated hotel.

Worst thing was when they put chicken bones, fish bones or whatever bones on the table. Just because it is a waiter/waitress's job to clear the table, they dumped all the 'rubbish' onto it. Uncivilised bunch of humans...imagine doing in a classy hotel....

A letter from beyond the grave

I read an article about a father who passed away because of cancer. And before he 'pass' on, he uses his remaining time he had sorting priorities for his 2 kids, Thomas and Lucy and wife, Mandy. You can read the remaining story here.

Below are notes that was left by Paul Flanagan for his family.

A FATHER'S RULES FOR FINDING FULFILMENT

  • Be courteous, be punctual, always say please and thank you, and be sure to hold your knife and fork properly. Others take their cue on how to treat you from your manners.
  • Be kind, considerate and compassionate when others are in trouble, even if you have problems of your own. Others will admire your selflessness and will help you in due course.
  • Show moral courage. Do what is right, even if that makes you unpopular. I always thought it important to be able to look at myself in the shaving mirror every morning and not feel guilt or remorse. I depart this world with a pretty clear conscience.
  • Show humility. Stand your ground but pause to reflect on what the other side are saying, and back off when you know you are wrong. Never worry about losing face. That only happens when you are pig-headed.
  • Learn from your mistakes. You will make plenty so use them as a learning tool. If you keep making the same mistake or run into a problem, you’re doing something wrong.
  • Avoid disparaging someone to a third party; it is only you who will look bad. If you have a problem with someone, tell them face to face.
  • Hold fire! If someone crosses you, don’t react immediately. Once you say something it can never be taken back, and most people deserve a second chance.
  • Have fun. If this involves taking risks, so be it. If you get caught, hold your hands up.
  • Give to charity and help those who are less fortunate than yourselves: it’s easy and so rewarding.
  • Always look on the upside! The glass is half full, never half empty. Every adversity has a silver lining if you seek it out.
  • Make it your instinct always to say ‘yes’. Look for reasons to do something, not reasons to say no. Your friends will cherish you for that.
  • Be canny: you will get more of what you want if you can give someone more of what they desire. Compromise can be king.
  • Always accept a party invitation. You may not want to go, but they want you there. Show them courtesy and respect.
  • Never ever let a friend down. I would bury bodies for my friends, if they asked me to . . . which is why I have chosen them carefully.
  • Always tip for good service. It shows respect. But never reward poor service. Poor service is insulting.
  • Always treat those you meet as your social equal, whether they are above or below your station in life. For those above you, show due deference, but don’t be a sycophant.
  • Always respect age, as age equals wisdom.
  • Be prepared to put the interests of your sibling first.
  • Be proud of who you are and where you come from, but open your mind to other cultures and languages. When you begin to travel (as I hope you will), you’ll learn that your place in the world is both vital and insignificant. Don’t get too big for your breeches.
  • Be ambitious, but not nakedly so. Be prepared to back your assertions with craftsmanship and hard work.
  • Live every day to its full: do something that makes you smile or laugh, and avoid procrastination.
  • Give of your best at school. Some teachers forget that pupils need incentives. So if your teacher doesn’t give you one, devise your own.
  • Always pay the most you can afford. Never skimp on hotels, clothing, shoes, make-up or jewellery. But always look for a deal. You get what you pay for.
  • Never give up! My two little soldiers have no dad, but you are brave, big-hearted, fit and strong. You are also loved by an immensely kind and supportive team of family and friends. You make your own good fortune, my children, so battle on.
  • Never feel sorry for yourself, or at least don’t do it for long. Crying doesn’t make things better.
  • Look after your body and it will look after you.
  • Learn a language, or at least try. Never engage a person abroad in conversation without first greeting them in their own language; by all means ask if they speak English!
  • And finally, cherish your mother, and take very good care of her.

I love you both with all my heart.

Daddy x

Humble Beginnings made us fat

The name sounded cool right. Well it's a name of a bakery that operate from home. They specialize in crepe cake. You can visit their website at www.humblebeginnings.com.my. They have 4 branches which are in Penang, KL, Prai and Singapore. Cool aite for a bakery that run from home.

You can contact them at http://www.humblebeginnings.com.my/contactus.html

I got to know about their cakes from a friend when her team organized a potluck for SME ANZ CUSTOMER CARE. Yes, i'm a sibuk...but in a good way.

I was the one who suggested my team to share the cake. We ordered 2x900g (with free topping cause we were employees in their listed company). RM72 per 900 gram. Requested to cut ibto 12 pieces for each cake. There were 6 of us.See how greedy we were...haha...we brought back 4 pieces of cake each person....ambik kau!

From the website itself, you can see how delicious they are. Imagine how they would taste...heaven...

Macaroons by Ritz Bakery

Don't get the title wrong. Not that i bought these macaroons from the famous Ritz Hotel. Flew all the way to KL. It's a bakery situated in Tanjung Tokong. The shophouses in front of Island Plaza.

I've been longing to get my hands on these so called macaroons after hearing about them everywhere. Even the sound of it is so tempting and cute.

So last week i googled it. I googled where to get macaroons in Penang. Apart from Four Season bakery in Straits Quey that would cost you a fortune.

So the result came with Ritz Bakery in the list. Since i was out to see a doc, i thought i'd drive there to get them. It cost me RM11 for 6 small pieces but the website showed as RM8 for 5 pieces. Maybe it was the old price given that the increased in petrol i think.

When i reached there, only chocolate flavor was available. I did not ask what flavor they have. They hace macaroon truffle. Can't see the different though. So for all the macaroon hunters, head to Ritz Bakery now...you don't have to susah-susah flying all the way to KL....

Dressing Paula

Yes, you got it right... Dressing Paula is my current addiction. Apart from MNG , they too sell dresses, shirts, skirts, accesories for petite people like me. Prices range from RM79.90 to RM119.90 roughly. It's quite reasonable judging the thickness and the quality of the clothes. You can find clothes for all occasions. You name it...from formal to party wear. Designs are simple. Doesn't look heavy on any body size. You can even find work wear..see what i mean by 'you can find clothes for all ocassions'?...it's like a one stop all-in-one boutique.

I wore Dressing Paula long sleeves, peep through purple shirt. Pair it with my wash off, front tore jeans and my Cotton On (S$5.00) black basic pump.

The Australian Dining

This is a long due post. It was a birthday lunch for one of my colleague. 'Cake' was courtesy of Justart...again as there was no cake shop anywhere nearby.

Anyway, the birthday lunch was a surprise and birthday girl knew nothing about the plan. And yes, she was surprised. It was planned 2 days back by another colleague. She suggested Woolloomoloo. A new Australian cuisine in town and i think the only Australian restaurant in Penang.

The food was not bad especially the mushroom soup. It is pure homemade judging by the taste. Not like when it is stated 'homemade soup', it actually came from the packet, just add hot water. One thing unique about the soup was, it has potato chunks in it. So it tasted different combined with small pieces of mushrooms.

The menus contain a lot of cod fish and salmon. There were 6 of us and 4 of us ordered something with fish in it (obviously i'm a sucker for fish and chips). Most of the portions are small except for fish and chips. For those who are not a great eater, you might want to share your chips portion. It is the biggest portion among all the set lunch available.

Set lunch consist of appetizer which is mushroom soup, main course to choose from, dessert, and drink. It's about RM20++ per person. So better keep your stomach slightly 'empty' before that.

Introducing the birthday girl.....

A letter to a best friend

Dear best friend,

How far we have come since we first met. We were shame to ask each other's name but we grew into a family by time. Many ups and downs together. Many mid-nite calls to each other. Talking over the phone for hours. Then all of a sudden, we were leaving high school/college. The last day of school/college left us unspoken due to the fact that all of us know that we will be parting from each other from now on. You went on with your new life and so does mine. Some of cried (I know I did when my BFF got an offer into a borading school back in year 2000)

After years goes by, the long distance SMSes and calls (we don't have 3G at that time), we step into the working world. Calls and SMSes became less as everyone were busy with work(so we thought) and some of us went into a relationship. Busy juggling with boyfriends and work. At one point, we almost forgot that we have besfriend. Well I guess that's normal as a human. We take granted on almost everything in life. But yet, it triggered our mind that even we forgot that person at times, the other party has never once forgotten about us. You can still see your best friend's SMS saying 'Hi, how are you' in your inbox. But both of you became strangers, don't know what to say to each other as a gap existed between us. But the bond is still there.

And then, we came to a point where some of us enter the life of marriage. The gap became even wider and sometimes, there's no news at all from each other(that's scary). Also a point where we seek the prefection of life in ourselves that at times we lost and at times you fall. But you know, even then, someone will always push you back up and give you the strength to carry on with life. When you think everything sucks, your best friend say that life is beautiful. When work sucks, your best friend say, be grateful that you have a job. When you got out from a relatioship, your best friend came all the way at 2am to comfort you. When you feel down, your best friend will make stupid jokes so that'll you'll laugh again.

Best friend will not laugh when you fall when the world are laughing at you. True friends will stab you in front and friends will stab you at the back. There's a differences. No matter how bad your attitude is, your ebst friend will always be there. Best friends accept each other for who they are. There's no need a mask to cover you true self when you have your best friend.

But through out the years of my life, i have met many people but the people who still leave their footsteps in me are a few. And I'm glad and grateful that we cross the same path and that now we remain as best friends no matter what life throw at us. We have, will and always be best friends.

And I hope when I leave the world, I will not leave our friendship. And that I'll leave in peace and knowing that there's no regret of having you as my best friend..

“When it hurts to look back, and you're scared to look ahead, you can look beside you and your best friend will be there.”

Salam Ramadhan

Hi readers,

I know it is the second day of Ramadhan, but I hope that it is not too late to wish everyone Selamat Berpuasa....

It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating and drinking[1] during daylight hours and is intended to teach Muslims about patience, spirituality, humility and submissiveness to God. Muslims fast for the sake of God (Arabic: الله‎, trans: Allah) and to offer more prayer than usual. Compared to the solar calendar, the dates of Ramadan vary, moving backwards by about eleven days each year depending on the moon; thus, a person will have fasted every day of the calendar year in 34 years' time. Muslims believe Ramadan to be an auspicious month for the revelations of God to humankind, being the month in which the first verses of the Qur'an were revealed to the Islamic prophet, Muhammad.

Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection and worship. Muslims are expected to put more effort into following the teachings of Islam and to avoid obscene and irreligious sights and sounds. Sexual intercourse among spouses is allowed after one has ended the daily fast. During fasting intercourse is prohibited as well as eating and drinking, one is also encouraged to resist all temptations while you are fasting. Purity of both thoughts and actions is important. The act of fasting is said to redirect the heart away from worldly activities, its purpose being to cleanse the inner soul and free it from harm. It also teaches Muslims to practice self-discipline, self-control,[9] sacrifice, and empathy for those who are less fortunate; thus encouraging actions of generosity and charity (Zakat).[10]

It becomes compulsory for Muslims to start fasting when they reach puberty, so long as they are healthy, sane and have no disabilities or illnesses. The elderly, the chronically ill, and the mentally ill are exempt from fasting, although the first two groups must endeavor to feed the poor in place of their missed fasting. Also exempt are pregnant women if they believe it would be harmful to them or the unborn baby, women during the period of their menstruation, and women nursing their newborns. A difference of opinion exists among Islamic scholars as to whether this last group must make up the days they miss at a later date, or feed poor people as a recompense for days missed.[11] While fasting is not considered compulsory in childhood, many children endeavour to complete as many fasts as possible as practice for later life. Lastly, those traveling (musaafir) are exempt, but must make up the days they miss.[12] More specifically, Twelver Shī‘ah define those who travel more than 14 mi (23 km) in a day as exempt.[10]

Derma Genesis by Loreal

It has been years since I last follow the 3 basic steps of skincare ; cleanse, tone and moisturize. Well, the toner part started yesterday. My normal skin care regime will be cleanse and moisturize, so I thought why not do it in 3 right. It won't take that long to do that one extra step.
However, the result was not bad, my face don't feel sticky after an application onto your skin unlike other toner. Felt smooth, and since I have a combination skin, my face don't become oily that fast. Took time. normally, right after I use my moisturizer, within 30 minutes I can see my face starting to 'shine'.

First application provides 8-hour hydration.

Cool and watery texture ensures easy absorption, leaving skin smooth and fine.

Continuous application leaves skin translucent and radiant.

After one-month application, skin is nourished and supple.

Dullness is corrected, allowing youthful radiance.

**And again, this product was tested on my skin, therefore result might vary on users..
